A female teacher at a Roman Catholic high school in Burnaby, B.C., is facing five sex-related charges involving a student.

RCMP say the teacher at St. Thomas More Collegiate has been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation and one of sexual assault, plus one charge of obstruction of justice.

Her name can't be released because of a publication ban intended to protect the victim or victims.

The charges follow a police investigation triggered when the school principal reported a possible sexual relationship between a teacher and a Grade 11 male student last spring.

The teacher has been at the school for the last four years and was placed on leave when the allegations surfaced in October.
